Honduras Vision Clinic
Madison Rotarians have been traveling to Honduras since 2015 to provide eyeglasses and medical eye care to people in remote mountain regions of southern Honduras.
Led by Dr. Michael St.Peter and International Service Chair Tim McMicken, our team has examined over 1,500 people and dispensed over 2,000 pairs of glasses. Most of the villagers have never seen an eye doctor or had prescription glasses.
I am the Montgomery Capital Rotary Club’s secretary-elect. In May, I attended the Conference in Huntsville and listened to Dr. Michael St. Peter describe the service project in Honduras. This project is similar to what our Club does in Honduras. Lunches For Learning was started by one of our members after he made a trip there and was moved to do something to address child malnutrition. The concept is simple. Provide an incentive for kids to attend school (lunch) and, at the same time, address illiteracy. The program has grown since its inception and now has 2200 children enrolled. Administratively, it’s headquartered in Atlanta. We would like Dr. St. Peter to address our Club and discuss the program in more detail and how we could work together. Please forward this to him.
